The dark side.
I’m happier with these results than I was with the “Angel” shots. I’d have to agree with Richo’s comment on the Angel shot that this role fits me better. It’s more fun to try some dramatic lighting, it’s more fun to make these kind of faces.
But… As I found out, it is very hard to do self-portraits using a manual focus camera. Not a single shot of these six is quite in focus. I guess that also has to do with making these kind of faces, trying to get some expression in there, and moving my head ever so slightly (or a bit more than that) in the process.
So that’s one reason for showing the contact sheet instead of choosing a single photo. When viewed small enough, the fact that they’re all out of focus is less apparent.
I think I’ll try this again someday, it was fun to do, and I want to get some razor sharp results.

Well then, by all means, allow I, the king of pathetically taking photos of my pathetic sorry ass self, assist you!
A trick I learned to do, is with your camera, go to the position that you will be sitting, standing, etc., and focus on the tripod you’ll be placing your camera upon… or table top, or whatever you’ll be using. That way, you’ll be focused on the spot you’ll be. And then to assist in minor moving around, don’t leave your lens wide open, but step down a couple stops, just enough so that a variance of a foot or so movement of you, will still be in the depth of field and focus.
Another trick I finally learned recently, is, if your camera is so equipped, use an interval timer to shoot. You don’t know how many pathetic years I spent setting the timer, and running into frame, and positioning myself for whatever pathetic shot of myself I was taking! With this newfound interval method, I can leisurely get into frame, and position my pathetic ass self, and do so multiple times in sequence, to knock out a good number of possible images of my pathetic ass elf!

I have to say, I liked your angel one better than these. As for your demon self, I guess I like the last, bottom right one the best, because it doesn’t look like you’re sitting on the loo trying to pinch one out X-D Though, your horns, look more like cute little bunny rabbit ears in it…

This is great, you should make more of these! I have not read the text but images are excellent! It has been bloody more then year ago you made them. You promised to make similar again.Do you want to make me a devil? Maybe easier to focus 🙂 Maybe less fun 🙁
